Botox vs. Dysport
Botox and Dysport are both FDA-approved neuromodulators that temporarily relax the muscles behind expression lines. Both work well, and the right choice depends on your anatomy, the area being treated and how you've responded to treatment before.
| Botox | Dysport | |
|---|---|---|
| Best known for | Precise placement in smaller areas like frown lines and crow's feet | Smooth, even results across broader areas like the forehead |
| Starts working | Usually 3–5 days | Often 2–3 days |
| Full results | About 2 weeks | About 2 weeks |
| How long it lasts | Typically 3–4 months | Typically 3–4 months |
| Units | Standard unit scale | Different unit scale, so unit counts aren't interchangeable with Botox |

Botox, But Still You
Our approach to Botox and Dysport starts with how your face naturally moves. Treatment is personalized to your anatomy, expressions and goals rather than following a one-size-fits-all dosing plan.
The goal is to soften the lines you want to address while maintaining natural-looking movement, balance and expression.
Is Botox Right for You?
Botox works best on dynamic lines, the ones that appear when you frown, raise your eyebrows or smile. Many patients also start in their late 20s and 30s to soften lines before they set in.
Good candidates
- Adults with forehead lines, frown lines (11s) or crow's feet
- Patients who want a refreshed look with natural movement
- Those interested in jaw slimming, lip flips, gummy smiles, neck bands or excessive sweating
Not recommended if you
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have certain neuromuscular conditions or an active skin infection in the area
- Your provider will review your health history before treatment
Aftercare
- Stay upright for 4 hours after treatment
- Don't rub, massage or press on treated areas for 24 hours
- Skip strenuous exercise, saunas and hot yoga for 24 hours
- Limit alcohol for 24 hours to reduce bruising
- Mild redness or small bumps fade within an hour; minor bruising is possible
- Wait 2 weeks to judge your full result, then check in with us if you'd like a touch-up

Our approach focuses on strategic placement and individualized dosing to soften expression lines while preserving natural facial movement.
Other Botox Treatment Areas
Neuromodulators can be used for more than forehead lines and crow’s feet. Depending on your anatomy, muscle activity and treatment goals, your Glowtox provider may recommend Botox or Dysport for additional facial and body areas.
Masseter Botox
Masseter treatment targets the strong muscles at the angle of the jaw. It may be used cosmetically to create a softer, slimmer-looking lower face in appropriate patients.
Trap Tox
Trapezius neuromodulator treatment targets the upper shoulder muscles and may be chosen by patients seeking a softer-looking transition between the neck and shoulders.
Botox for Excessive Sweating
Botox can be used to reduce excessive underarm sweating by temporarily blocking the chemical signals that activate sweat glands. Your provider can determine whether treatment is appropriate for you.
Lip Flip
A lip flip uses small, strategically placed amounts of neuromodulator around the upper lip to relax specific muscles and subtly increase visible upper lip without adding filler volume.
Gummy Smile
Targeted neuromodulator treatment may help reduce excessive elevation of the upper lip when smiling, creating a more balanced smile in appropriate candidates.
Chin Botox
Treatment of the mentalis muscle can help soften a dimpled or “pebbled” chin appearance caused by muscle activity.
DAO Botox
Small amounts of neuromodulator can be placed in muscles that pull the corners of the mouth downward when appropriate for a patient’s anatomy and goals.
Platysmal Bands & Neck Botox
Neuromodulator treatment can soften prominent platysmal bands and muscle activity through the neck for a smoother, more relaxed appearance.
Some neuromodulator uses are off-label. Treatment recommendations, product selection and dosing are individualized after an in-person assessment.
Natural-Looking Botox Results
Our goal is refreshed, balanced results that soften expression lines without changing what makes you look like you.
Forehead Wrinkles
Treatment designed to soften forehead wrinkles while preserving natural facial movement and expression.
Neck & Platysmal Bands
Neuromodulator treatment can soften prominent platysmal bands for a smoother, more relaxed appearance through the neck.

How long does Botox last?
Botox typically lasts about three to four months, although duration varies based on metabolism, treatment area, muscle strength and individual response.
When will I see Botox results?
Botox usually starts working within 3 to 5 days, with full results visible in about two weeks. If you'd like a touch-up, we recommend waiting the full two weeks before deciding.
Does Botox hurt?
Most patients describe Botox injections as a brief pinch or mild discomfort. Treatment is quick and generally well tolerated.
What areas can Botox treat?
Botox and Dysport are commonly used for forehead lines, frown lines between the eyebrows and crow’s feet. Depending on your anatomy and treatment goals, neuromodulators may also be used for masseter treatment, Trap Tox, lip flips, gummy smile, chin dimpling, DAO treatment, platysmal bands and neck treatment, as well as excessive underarm sweating. Some uses may be off-label and are recommended only after an in-person assessment by your provider.
What is the difference between Botox and Dysport?
Botox and Dysport are both neuromodulators that temporarily relax targeted muscles to soften expression lines. They have slightly different formulations and dosing characteristics. Dysport may start working a day or two sooner and can spread more evenly across broader areas, while Botox is often chosen for precise placement. Your Glowtox provider can recommend the best option for your goals. See our Botox vs. Dysport comparison.
Does Glowtox offer masseter Botox in San Diego?
Yes. Glowtox offers neuromodulator treatment of the masseter muscles for appropriate patients. Cosmetic masseter treatment may help create a softer, slimmer-looking lower face. Your injector will assess your jaw anatomy and muscle activity before recommending treatment.
What is Trap Tox?
Trap Tox refers to neuromodulator injections into the trapezius muscles. Cosmetic treatment may reduce the prominence of the upper trapezius muscles and create a softer-looking neck-to-shoulder contour in appropriate patients.
Can Botox help with excessive underarm sweating?
Botox can be used to reduce excessive underarm sweating by temporarily blocking chemical signals that activate sweat glands. A Glowtox provider can evaluate whether underarm treatment is appropriate for you.
Does Glowtox offer lip flips and chin Botox?
Yes. Depending on your anatomy and goals, neuromodulators may be used for a lip flip, chin dimpling and other targeted lower-face concerns. Your injector will recommend placement and dosing after evaluating your facial movement.
Is there downtime after Botox?
There is no real downtime. Most patients return to work and normal activities right away. Avoid lying down for 4 hours, rubbing the treated areas for 24 hours, and strenuous exercise, saunas and alcohol for 24 hours. Mild redness fades within an hour, and minor bruising is possible.
How often should I get Botox?
Most patients return every three to four months, when movement starts to come back. With consistent treatment, some patients find their results last a little longer over time. Your provider will recommend a schedule based on your goals.
