Preparation
The skin is prepared and topical numbing cream may be applied to improve comfort.
Treatment
Dermapen 4 is moved across the treatment area while your provider adjusts treatment based on your skin and the area being addressed. Treatments commonly take approximately 30–60 minutes depending on area.
Aftercare
Temporary redness similar to a mild sunburn may occur. Your provider will give you individualized post-treatment instructions.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Most patients start with a series of three treatments, spaced about four weeks apart. Collagen remodeling develops gradually, so results build over the weeks after each session. Scalp patients often continue with maintenance sessions after their first series.

What is included in a microneedling series?
A series is three treatments, typically spaced about four weeks apart, and saves 15% or more compared with booking single sessions. Every series includes a free Dp Derm home care kit ($150 value): Brightening, Age-Defying or Hair.
What are exosomes, and should I add them?
The exosome serums we use are professional Dp Dermaceuticals formulas applied to the skin right after microneedling, when it is most receptive. Many patients add them for a faster-feeling recovery and extra glow. They are cosmetic products, not drugs, and are not FDA-approved to treat any medical condition.
What is the difference between microneedling with PRP and with exosomes?
PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is prepared from a small sample of your own blood, so it requires a blood draw. Exosome serums are ready-made professional formulas, so no blood draw is needed. Exosomes are available at both studios; PRP is available at our Pacific Beach studio only.
Can microneedling help thinning hair?
Scalp microneedling with Dp Dermaceuticals EXO-GROW is designed to support scalp health and fuller-looking hair, and is available at both studios. At Pacific Beach, PRP can be added for patients who are good candidates. Hair treatments usually start with a series of three, followed by maintenance sessions. Does microneedling hurt?
Comfort varies by person and area. We apply topical numbing cream before treatment, and most patients describe the feeling as vibration or light pressure.
How much downtime should I expect?
Most people have redness similar to a mild sunburn for a day or two, and some feel warmth or sensitivity. Most return to normal routines quickly. Your provider will give you aftercare instructions.
Can microneedling help melasma?
Microneedling with MG-BL, a professional brightening infusion with kojic acid, vitamin C and licorice root, is designed to help reduce the appearance of melasma, sun spots and uneven tone. It is included with face microneedling at no extra cost when your provider recommends it. Because melasma can flare with heat and irritation, your provider will take a conservative approach. Results depend on daily sun protection, and melasma often needs maintenance. Candidacy is confirmed at consultation.
Can microneedling help acne scars?
Microneedling may improve the appearance of certain types of acne scarring, especially shallow or rolling scars, through gradual collagen remodeling. A series usually gives the best results.
Should I choose microneedling, BBL HEROic or MOXI?
They address different concerns. Microneedling focuses on texture, scarring, pores and fine lines. BBL HEROic targets pigmentation, redness and sun damage, and MOXI is a gentle laser for tone and texture. Your provider will recommend the best fit at your consultation.
